Ingredients
Scale
- 1 bag (32 oz/907 g) frozen Ore-Ida™ Tater Tots™
- 3 cups shredded cooked chicken
- 2 cups shredded Colby-Monterey Jack cheese blend (8 oz/227 g)
- 1 can (10.5 oz/298 g) condensed cream of chicken soup
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup chopped bacon (cooked)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
- 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions
- 1 package (1 oz/28 g) ranch dressing and seasoning mix
- 1 tsp vegetable oil
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
Instructions
- Prepare the oven at 350°F and lightly grease a 13×9-inch glass baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Heat vegetable oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Sauté chopped onions for 3-5 minutes until soft and translucent, stirring periodically.
- Create the base mixture by combining sautéed onions, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, milk, one cup of cheese blend, ranch dressing mix, and black pepper in a medium mixing bowl. Thoroughly mix the ingredients.
- Fold shredded chicken into the mixture until evenly distributed.
- Arrange the first half of frozen Tater Tots in a single layer across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Spread the chicken mixture evenly over the Tater Tots, ensuring complete coverage. Sprinkle 1/4 cup of chopped bacon over this layer.
- Place remaining Tater Tots in a large resealable bag with additional ranch dressing mix. Shake to coat tots evenly.
- Top the casserole with the seasoned Tater Tots in a uniform layer.
- Bake for 40 minutes in the preheated oven.
- Sprinkle remaining cheese and bacon over the casserole.
- Bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until cheese melts and Tater Tots turn golden brown.
- Remove from oven and immediately garnish with chopped tomatoes and sliced green onions.
- Serve piping hot directly from the baking dish.
Notes
- Swap frozen tater tots with cauliflower or sweet potato tots for a healthier alternative that reduces carbohydrate intake and adds nutritional value.
- Use low-fat dairy products like reduced-fat sour cream and cheese to create a lighter version of the casserole without compromising taste.
- Make the dish gluten-free by selecting gluten-free cream of chicken soup and verifying all ingredient labels to ensure no hidden gluten sources.
- Prep ahead by assembling the casserole earlier in the day and refrigerating, then bake when ready to serve for convenient meal planning.
