Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Main Ingredients:
- 1.5 pounds ground beef
- 12 slices pepperoni
- 1/3 cup canned sliced mushrooms, drained
- 2 (8-inch) premade pizza crusts
Cheeses:
- 6 slices American cheese
- 5 ounces (142 grams) grated mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
Seasonings and Additional Ingredients:
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 cup sliced yellow onion
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup pizza sauce
Optional Garnishes:
- Fresh basil leaves
- Crushed red pepper flakes
Instructions
- Prepare the oven by setting it to broil on high and lightly coating a 12-inch ovenproof skillet with cooking spray.
- Spread ground beef evenly in the skillet, creating small indentations to prevent swelling. Season with salt, Italian seasoning, and black pepper. Broil for 15 minutes until fully cooked and browned. Remove the burger and discard pan drippings.
- Lower oven temperature to 450F (230C). Melt butter in the skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions for 8 minutes, stirring periodically. Add garlic and cook for an additional 2 minutes until aromatic. Transfer onion-garlic mixture to a separate plate.
- Layer the first pizza crust at the bottom of the skillet. Spread pizza sauce over the crust, then distribute sautéed onions and garlic. Position the cooked burger patty on top and cover with American cheese slices. Place the second pizza crust upside down over the burger.
- Coat the top crust with remaining pizza sauce. Sprinkle two-thirds of mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Arrange pepperoni and mushrooms evenly across the surface. Add the remaining cheese. Bake for 20-25 minutes until cheese melts and crust turns golden brown.
- Slice into wedges and serve immediately. Optionally garnish with fresh basil and crushed red pepper flakes.
Notes
- Customize meat thickness for even cooking by pressing ground beef uniformly into the skillet.
- Create small divots in burger surface to prevent uneven puffing during broiling, ensuring consistent texture.
- Substitute ground beef with ground turkey or plant-based alternatives for healthier or vegetarian options.
- Reduce sodium by using low-sodium cheese and minimizing added salt during seasoning.
