Description
Hearty Philly cheesesteak cheesy bread delivers authentic Philadelphia flavor in a simple, satisfying dish. Melted provolone, thinly sliced beef, and caramelized onions combine to make you crave this comforting classic.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups (480 ml) Provolone cheese (shredded)
- 12 oz (340 g) Philly cheesesteak meat (thinly sliced)
- 1 loaf Frozen French Garlic Bread
- 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
- 1 green bell pepper (finely chopped)
- 2 tsp (10 ml) Worcestershire sauce
- Olive oil for cooking
- Garlic powder (to taste)
- Onion powder (to taste)
- Salt (to taste)
- Pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to the temperature specified on the garlic bread packaging. Prepare the garlic bread according to package instructions, keeping the oven hot for later use.
- Place a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the Philly cheesesteak meat until completely browned, carefully draining any excess fat to maintain a crisp texture.
- Season the cooked meat with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir thoroughly to distribute the seasonings evenly. Remove the meat from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, drizzle a small amount of olive oil and reduce heat to medium. Sauté the chopped green bell pepper and onion until they become soft and slightly caramelized.
- Layer the pre-baked garlic bread with shredded Provolone cheese, creating a base for the toppings. Spread the seasoned meat evenly across the cheese, then distribute the sautéed vegetables on top.
- Add a final layer of Provolone cheese to completely cover the meat and vegetables. Return the prepared bread to the oven for 5 minutes, or until the cheese melts and turns a light golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let rest for 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the cheese to set slightly before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Opt for thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin steak for the most authentic Philly cheesesteak texture and flavor.
- Pat the meat dry before cooking to achieve a perfect golden-brown sear and prevent excess moisture.
- For a lighter version, swap regular garlic bread with cauliflower crust or low-carb bread alternatives.
- Experiment with different cheese combinations like Swiss or white American cheese to customize the flavor profile.
